Ember MCP server
Run your projects from the AI agent you already use
People are going to work with AI, so we opened Ember to it. With our MCP server, your favorite agent, local or cloud-based, can plan milestones, create tasks, and write notes in your workspace. Ember stays as calm as ever.
Why we built it
AI belongs in your workflow, not in your way
More and more work starts with a prompt. We did not want to add another assistant you have to learn, or another feed to watch. So we made Ember work with the agents you already trust.
Your agent, not ours
You already have a favorite assistant. Instead of bolting a chatbot onto Ember, we opened Ember to the one you use: Claude, Cursor, Windsurf, a local model, or your own setup.
Local or cloud, your call
Connect a cloud agent, or run a local model with Ollama or LM Studio so your tasks go straight from Ember to your computer and never reach an AI company.
Still calm, still yours
Agents work quietly in the background: no notifications, no feed. Ember does not train AI on your content, and every change an agent makes is logged for you to review.
How it works
Your agent talks to Ember for you
MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is an open standard for connecting AI agents to tools. Ember runs an MCP server. You ask your agent for something, the agent calls Ember, and the change lands in your workspace like any other edit.
You
Ask in plain language
Your agent
Claude, Cursor, or a local model
Ember MCP server

What your agent can do
Everything you do in Ember, in plain language
Tasks
Create, update, complete, move, and delete tasks, with due dates, priorities, and repeating routines.
“Add a task to fix the checkout rounding bug, high priority, due Friday.”
Milestones
Plan milestones, attach tasks to them, and close them when the work ships.
“Plan a v1.2 milestone for the end of the month and move the open bugs into it.”
Notes
Write, search, and append to notes, and turn any line into a task that keeps its live status.
“Turn the action items in my meeting note into tasks.”
Projects and workspaces
List and create projects, and set how long done tasks stay on the board before archiving.
“Create a Website Redesign project in my Studio workspace.”
Statuses and types
Read your workspace's own statuses and types, and add, rename, or remove custom ones.
“Add an In Review status and move the tasks waiting on feedback there.”
Questions about your work
Ask what is overdue, what is left in a milestone, or what you wrote about a topic.
“What is still open in the launch milestone?”
You stay in control
Let agents help, and see exactly what they did
Every change is logged
Changes made over MCP appear in the project's Activity tab with an MCP label, so you can let an agent triage and still review its work.
Keys you can revoke
Each agent gets its own API key. Keys are shown once, stored only as a hash, and can be revoked in one click. Up to 10 active keys.
Only your workspaces
An agent reaches the workspaces you own and your own notes, nothing else. With more than one workspace, it asks which one instead of guessing.
Setup
Connect your agent in three steps
- 1
Create an API key
In Ember, open Account settings, go to API Keys, and choose Create API Key. Name it after the agent, like “Claude Desktop”. Copy it right away: it is shown only once.
- 2
Add Ember to your agent
Add the Ember server to your MCP client's config and paste your key in place of
<your-api-key>. - 3
Ask for what you need
“What is overdue in my projects?” is a good first prompt. Then check the project's Activity tab to see the agent's changes.

What is MCP?
The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard that lets AI agents use outside tools. Ember runs an MCP server, so any agent that speaks MCP can read and update your projects, tasks, milestones, and notes.
Which AI agents work with Ember?
Any MCP-compatible client, including Claude, Cursor, Windsurf, and local models run through tools like Ollama or LM Studio. If your agent can connect to a remote MCP server over HTTP, it can connect to Ember.
Does my data go to an AI company?
Only if you connect a cloud agent, and only to the provider you picked. With a local model, your tasks go from Ember to your own computer and never reach an AI provider. Ember does not train AI on your content.
Can an agent see my team's workspaces?
An agent can reach the workspaces you own and your own notes. Workspaces where you are a member, and other people's private notes, are out of reach.
Can I limit what an agent can do?
Each API key has full access to the workspaces you own, so give each agent its own key. You can see when a key was last used and revoke it instantly from Account settings. Every project change made over MCP is logged in the Activity tab.
Will agents start sending me notifications?
No. Ember has no notifications, and agents do not change that. Their work shows up quietly in your projects and in the Activity tab, for you to look at when you choose.
